Davido’s Omo Baba Olowo: The Genesis marked the beginning of a bold new chapter in Nigerian music, and the album’s second track, “Back When” featuring Naeto C, perfectly captures its raw energy. Released in 2012, this anthem blends Davido’s signature melodic flow with Naeto C’s sharp lyricism, creating a track that stands out as both a nostalgic reflection and a forward-looking statement. The chemistry between the two artists shines through, making it one of the album’s most engaging moments.

Musically, “Back When” draws from the Afrobeats sound that was already emerging, though still in its early stages of global recognition. The track’s rhythm and Davido’s confident delivery set it apart, while Naeto C’s verse adds depth with his signature wit and storytelling. Together, they craft a song that feels timeless, resonating with listeners who appreciate the blend of tradition and innovation in African music.

Though not widely discussed today, “Back When” remains a standout piece from Omo Baba Olowo: The Genesis, offering a glimpse into the evolution of Davido’s artistry. Its release helped shape the early sound of Afrobeats, making it a fascinating listen for fans of the genre’s foundational era.
